A new student-produced video on YouTube features a series of student scholarship winners from across the campus thanking
UC Irvine donors for their gifts.
The campus is seeking additional private support for both undergraduate scholarships and graduate student fellowships, especially as students and their families face tough economic conditions and increasing fees.
The video was shot by award-winning UC Irvine student videographer Kyle Good in association with the University’s Advancement program that raises funds for students and campus improvements.
Good had previously won the X PRIZE Foundation’s first ever “What’s Your Crazy Green Idea” Contest. That video described a new storage medium, an “ultra-capacitor,” that was crowned champion, and the $25,000 winner, of that international competition. He also won a student video competition at UC Irvine. Good is an undergraduate film and media major.
The current video is a compilation of thank yous from student scholarship and fellowship winners at UC Irvine representing all schools. It uses high-speed time-lapse segments as students write “thank you” notes to donors.
“We're trying to build even more donor support for our students,” said Mark Aydelotte, assistant vice chancellor of marketing at UC Irvine. “We've been able to support 2,000 different scholarships and fellowships over the course of the UCI Shaping the Future campaign, but our students can use even more help.”
The video is featured on the UC Irvine “Shaping the Future” campaign Web site at www.UCIFuture.com. Information about the scholarship effort is at www.ucifuture.com/NEWS09/AnteatersPride.html.
